What is Systems Change?
The study of systems change is a newly emerging and rapidly evolving field of inquiry which is concerned with addressing the root causes of socio-economic and environmental problems, by acknowledging the inextricable interconnection of all systems. Systems Change theory works with the concept of Unity as a foundational principle and seeks to address the conditions which allow certain issues to persist.
Applying Systems Thinking for social change, we recognise that all “problems”, or social justice issues, are outcomes of poorly designed systems and as such we are focused on holistic and preventative approaches to social change, rather than addressing the symptoms of dysfunctional systems.
What is Systems Change 101?
Systems Change 101 is a 7-week live online social change masterclass designed to empower you with tools, insights and methods to create the change you want to make in the most effective way possible. This programme is for anyone and everyone interested in local and global issues of social, economic, gender and environmental justice.
It’s time to power-up and take action on the issues we care about, with confidence, clarity and determination.
How does it work?
- This 7-week programme is facilitated live on Zoom with a weekly lecture and Q&A session, along with additional reading and research material.
- Sessions are held at 6.30pm Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT) on Wednesdays.
- Lecture recordings are uploaded to the alumni Facebook Group following each session, enabling students to catch up or re-watch lecture recordings. Recordings are accessible even after the course is complete.
- The alumni Facebook group enables further conversations and collaborations with past and present participants.
- All past participants of the programme are able to join future lectures for revision and reviewing purposes.
‘This newfound clarity is amazing and brings with it deep contentment and purpose. I feel equipped with tools to bring about real justice. You’ve saved me 10 years of contributing to initiatives that only ‘bandaid’ the problem and don’t address the root cause. It’s like putting on the exact right glasses - all the dots now connect!’
- Sarah J.

The idea that unconscious bias exists in all of us is no longer a question to be asked but rather a scientific matter of fact. And because it is costing the business world $64B dollars annually in the rehiring process alone means that companies are finally ready to talk about it and understand how their human resources and diversity & inclusion staff can mitigate its impact. The true cost of unconscious bias includes the human resources to rehire, decreased productivity due to low employee satisfaction, as well as the loss of potential talent unwilling to even apply to work for employers with negative diversity and inclusion reports. Beyond these business indicators, the social and emotional cost of unconscious bias on our world is far too great to even hypothesise at this stage.
