This first video summarises one of the key concepts from our last session; race is not real.

Race is a social construct which means it is ‘socially constructed’ and it does not have a basis in scientific fact. After viewing this 3-minute video reflect on how the idea of ‘race’ has been used throughout history, and what might be some of the lasting repercussions of this outdated idea.

This second video uses a humorous tongue-in-cheek approach to discuss the very real issue of “diversity and inclusion” in the workplace, and raises the question of how can we move beyond tokenism and surface-level approaches to ‘introducing diversity’. We will discuss some of the themes raised in this video in our next face-to-face session. For now, consider how you would like to see Diversity and Inclusion applied in more authentic and meaningful ways.

This final video is an opportunity for us to listen to the thoughts and feelings of some Indigenous Australians and reflect on what they hear when people speak about “Australia Day”. Take this opportunity to reflect on why some people might take offence to the suggestion of changing the date or calling it Survival Day or Invasion Day. What would we lose or have to acknowledge, if we did change the date and/or the name of this day?
